reasons I’ve blocked people who never interacted with me:
- they made a post that I keep seeing people reblogging and I disagree with it
- they made a post and I don’t disagree with it, but I think their way of expressing it is extremely counterproductive if they want to convince anyone to agree with it
- they made a post participating in an argument where I think both sides are extreme wastes of time
- they made a post about a person/topic/fandom/franchise that I am sick of seeing references to, to the point that I have all possible related words filtered, but they evaded this by posting an untagged, undescribed screenshot. Bonus points if the screenshot is about how they also are sick of this topic and don’t want to see any references to it on their dash
- They made a post that’s a good joke but I have seen at least five different versions of the same joke posted by different people over the past couple years and each one got thousands of notes like it was the first time anyone’s ever thought of this joke
- They made a post that’s a good joke but I’ve seen five different versions of this joke get thousands of notes over the past couple years and all of those versions were posted after MY version of the joke which got like 4 notes and then vanished into obscurity
- basically any post they’ve made that I’m sick of, and have seen get reblogged onto my dash more times than I want to
ways Tumblr could reduce the number of people I block:
- make it possible to block a specific post and never see it again, in any reblogs. without blocking the person who made it. just 1 post. please
the more i think about this, the more I feel like Tumblr’s general attitude of “if a person ever did something we don’t like, we’ve gotta throw out the whole person” is kinda baked into the code of how the website works
