Just saw someone’s rant about a person using the abbreviation “SA” in real life speech instead of “sexual assault”
Which I mean… the complaint has merit, if you’re concerned about the abbreviation being confused with something else those letters can stand for, or for that matter the spoken word “essay”– there’s some valid complaints
But OP was complaining as if it was a cutesy euphemism
and not like. An abbreviation to avoid saying five syllables every time you speak a two-word phrase
And against my better judgement I looked at the replies to see if anyone else had the same thoughts
But gave up after scrolling through a mind-numbing number of posts about whether algorithms actually care about these things, and whether or not censoring it for trigger reasons makes sense
… Some of which, completely un-self-aware, talked about working at the “DV shelter,” or called the whole thing “childish BS”
…LMAO.
Whoops sorry. I meant:

censorship die. Hah.
seriously though.
it occurs to me that saying: “that word/phrase/abbreviation is evil, because there is a more explicit and less polite way to say the same thing, and therefore this term qualifies as a euphemism and is therefore censorship, and therefore you should be forbidden to say it” ….is … not the anti-censorship heroism you might think it is
(someday try looking up the actual etymological origins of a buncha words you think are the ultimate uncensored versions. you will find they’re all euphemisms, all the way back.)
