reasons I’ve blocked people who never interacted with me:

ways Tumblr could reduce the number of people I block:

the more i think about this, the more I feel like Tumblr’s general attitude of “if a person ever did something we don’t like, we’ve gotta throw out the whole person” is kinda baked into the code of how the website works

and I really really don’t like this.

because, I guess, the common theme in “posts I decide I never want to see again,” is:

  1. I have seen them multiple times
  2. they make me want to say something
  3. I know that the thing I want to say would not end well
  4. …so every time I see the post, I feel the frustration of having to silence myself.

and this frustration is an extremely bad feeling.

but also? it is a feeling that cannot always rationally be blamed on anyone else.

and, if someone has posted something that caused me to have that feeling? that does not necessarily mean I “don’t want to see any of their other posts,” or “don’t want them to see mine”

and so it is very frustrating that Tumblr’s “stop seeing a post” options are limited to

  1. filter words that are in it, which only works if the post has words, and won’t even stop you from seeing the words because they’ll still show up in your “this post has been hidden” notification
  2. or block the person entirely.

there’s probably other options in, like. xkit or something? but, having to troubleshoot the ways Tumblr fucks up a plugin every time there’s a site update is also very high on my list of experiences I do not like

so

…maybe I will try to build a habit of taking “post I don’t like to see” as a sign that it’s time to log off the internet for a while.

fuck knows I sometimes need such a sign.
