ALT“canon-typical [whatever]” is the funniest category of ao3 tags to me because it’s basically a nicer way of saying “what the fuck were you expecting”
“canon-typical incest” on a house of the dragon fic, because what the fuck were you expecting
“canon-typical violence” on a hunger games fic, because what the fuck were you expecting
“canon-typical cannibalism” on a hannibal fic, because what the fuck were you expecting
sometimes you do just have to say, look, you knew what you were clicking on and what fandom this is for, we were both at the devil’s sacrament, so don’t come crying to me.
It can also be a reassurance. I often take that those tags to mean “you aren’t in for anything more extreme than what was in canon”.
and of course sometimes it just reveals that you have an uncommon(ly correct) interpretation of what happened in canon
