It really is a new level of despair knowing not even Daft Punk liked TRON Legacy...

….no it really isn’t? not for me?
- I don’t even know or care whether this is true or not. Before I got this ask I had never heard that they didn’t like it. I do not generally go around looking for the opinions of people involved in making movies. Because
- I began my fandom life in a time when the opinions of everyone involved in making canon material (producers, directors, writers, actors, musicians, everyone) were considered completely irrelevant.
- this was necessary, because fandom had a lot of gay porn, and the people making canon were almost all homophobic and sex-negative (or pretending to be, for the sake of not being shunned by the whole society at the time) (not to mention that many of them considered all fanworks plagiarism back then, we didn’t yet have AO3 and the OTW and the legal precedent they set for considering fanworks fair use)
- so it was pretty much a given that almost everyone involved in making any movie would be someone we kinda considered a shitty person.
- We did not have the luxury of watching only movies by people who managed to convince us they lived fully up to our ethics. Let alone agreed with us about the movie!
- they would definitely have opinions about the movie itself that we didn’t agree with. Up to and including hating it, sometimes! In some cases we even still find this funny and endearing (e.g. Harrison Ford and his feelings about playing Han Solo)
- And all this meant, we learned not to give a shit what anyone involved in creating canon thought about anything. And for some of us, this lesson actually stuck. And it makes being a fan much more enjoyable, and I highly recommend it.
- (It also means you can 100% disregard any “word of god” you don’t like) (fandom as recent as 2001 would laugh at the whole idea of “word of god” being part of canon)
- if you actually enjoy the source material itself, separating it in your mind from your thoughts about the celebrities involved in making it will save you so very much heartbreak i swear
- you can get immersed in the fiction and enjoy what you see on the screen or on the page, without having your suspension of disbelief and the entire fourth wall constantly assaulted by the logic-probe of Doylism
- I am a fan of the original 1982 movie before anything else, and they did like that one. So none of this is even my problem. lol why are you even talking to me about this.
