child humor is fascinating. read the kids a book today I was worried they’d be bored with but they actually found it extremely funny so the author def knew what they were doing having me repeat the word “banana” like that
How old are the kids!
3 and 4 years old in this class
Oh yeah, that’s a great age for silly books. The Sandra Boynton books go over amazingly well.
I love how absurdist children’s senses of humor can be
I remember a time in my early childhood when I thought (context-based learning!) that the word “silly” meant “extra hilariously funny”
I have largely retained this absurdist sense of humor into adulthood. Although i can appreciate a skillfully crafted joke that makes sense on multiple levels (and indeed I enjoy this craft very much myself!) the only jokes that make me laugh until I can’t breathe are total nonsense ones
so…. I am inclined to follow the same sort of logical process by which linguists keep choosing to do studies on children, reasoning that the ways children use language are somehow the truest and most natural ways
and thus to conclude, from my own studies, that surrealist humor is objectively the funniest, and adults only think otherwise because of artificial societal conditioning
(yes, the same science does also prove that sugar is objectively the best taste and most vegetables objectively taste yucky. of course. why do you ask)
