fun fact
Many reptiles can do parthenogenesis, reproducing without sex
In some cases this can produce only female offspring, in other cases it produces male offspring
This can depend on a lot of things (i think in some cases the birth sex of a reptile can be determined by egg incubation temperature regardless of the chromosomes)
But there’s one weird theory about the types of reptiles whose parthenogenetic offspring are all chromosomally male
which speculates that this evolved so that one female could populate a whole island by herself by mating with her offspring
Idk about this idea
But I find it interesting how the reptile species that can do this…. include at least some kinds of snakes.
maybe that’s how they got so many snakes on that plane.
