so frustrating to be a skeptic with a sense of whimsy because like. I want there to be cryptids. I want there to be magic. I want there to be evidence of something we don’t fully understand and can’t explain. but then 99% of the “proof” out there for that stuff is like. the most obvious scam you’ve ever seen in your life.

The "I WANT TO BELIEVE" poster showing a flying saucer in the sky over a forest, but the caption's been edited to say "I WANT TO BELIEVE BUT I AIN'T DESPERATE"ALT

It’s an unattainable desire because as soon as there’s evidence of something that was previously not understood or proven, it stops being… that

Anything we’ve ever called magic, if we figured out how it worked – or even fully proved that it did work – it stopped being called magic.

Which is why I’m certain that– if there are other universes that have something we’d call magic– something they can do that’s impossible by the natural laws of our world– they don’t call it magic.

They probably don’t have a word for it.

I mean, that would be like us having a word for “things that are possible in this world, but impossible in one specific alternate reality (which we’ve never been to, and have no reason to assume even exists).”
