Velociraptors are scary but really they aren’t that scary because they can’t change speed. They always move at exactly the same rate, so they’re predictable and you can avoid them. The real one to look out for is the acceleraptor
OP I’m gonna kill you.
posiraptors suffered a swift and merciless extinction on account of being trapped on a fixed point from birth
Jerkiraptors jerk you off when they get you
What I’m taking away from this whole delightful conversation is that the “veloci” in the word “velocipede” (old term for bicycle) means that it cannot accelerate or decelerate
And that therefore, the difference between a velocipede and a Lightcycle is not as extreme as one might suppose
The difference perhaps only being that a Lightcycle can sometimes get a Turbo Boost.
…aaaaaaa. But now I have to deal with the fact that the origin of “turbo” actually has more to do with spinning than with speed.
Hah. I was trying to make a ridiculous joke about one speed-related prefix getting used in increasingly wrong ways, but then ended up stuck with another.
Story of my asterisk-thinking life, lol
one could say the Tron 2.0 Lightcycles were the closest possible thing to a literal “single-speed bike”
Which makes some sense if you imagine that their speed is information traveling in a computer at the speed of light (which is called a “constant” for a reason!)
But then immediately stops making sense when you realize that would make the Turbo Boost faster-than-light travel.
And having explored that, my brain now wants to focus on what the more correct physics term would be for “speed” as it’s used to describe the use of different gears on a bicycle. It isn’t speed or velocity or acceleration, you can do any of that to different degrees in any gear on a bike with a gear-shift, it’s just a matter of how hard you have to pedal.
A “three-speed bike” has three different…. amounts of energy required to accelerate a given amount, depending on where you set the gear shift. Those aren’t speeds. I know they’ve got a scientific name though.
